Si tu as plus d information contacte moi. Je fais des recherches sur lui. Et ce n est pas évident. Isabelle |

A solution
Resurrecting this dead threat, because I think I have found a solution. Apologies for the length of this post.
Quebec Catholic marriage records almost always name the parents of the couples being married. There are, however, occasional exceptions. One of the most striking of these is a cluster of four persons, born about the same time, all named Gelineau, whose marriage records do not name their parents. These are:
1. Rosalie Gelineau married Amable Robert on 21 Oct 1834 at Napierville.
2. Victoire Gelineau married Moise Robert, Amable’s brother, on 12 Apr 1836 at St-Mathias-sur-Richelieu.
3. Nicolas Gelineau married Elisabeth Racicot at St Valentin on 10 Jan 1843.
4. Etienne Gelineau married Elisabeth Estley at Longeueil on 5 Aug 1861. These had previously been married in the US, presumably in a heretic ceremony; Elizabeth and their four children had received Catholic baptism the previous day.
The reasons for this remain obscure, but it is unlikely to be a coincidence.
Could the four Gelineau’s be siblings? PRDH states that Rosalie and Victoire are sisters in their on-line records. They both lived in Napierville, as did the two brothers they married, so this seems likely. As for Etienne, a Rosalie Gelineau is named as marraine to his daughter Francoise in her Catholic baptism at Longeueil, and two of Victoire’s children, Alphonse and Melina Robert, were parrain and marraine to his youngest child Etienne. As well, the families of Victoire and Etienne appear consecutively in the 1861 Census at St-Antoine-de-Longeueil, which suggests that they lived in the same household, or at least were immediate neighbors.
Approximate birthdates can be inferred from Census and death records. Etienne’s birth year is about 1810 according to both the 1861 census and his burial record. Rosalie was born around 1813 according to the census records and her burial record; the 1861 census states she was born in St-Valentin. Victoire was born around 1819 according to most census records and her burial record, but around 1815 in the 1861 Census. Nicolas’s Massachusetts death record states that he died at the age of 61 years, 7 months, and 18 days, which would place his birth date as Oct. 8 1819, in approximate agreement with most census records, except for the 1870 US Census which gives it at around 1822. The burial record also states that Nicolas’ father’s name was also Nicolas Gelineau.
The death record of Nicolas’ son Charles states that Nicolas was born at St-Valentin, like his sister Rosalie, so this looked like a good place to start. Unfortunately, the parish of St-Valentin was not established until 1830, so this did not help much. A more general search of baptismal records found only one which fit parameters: one dated 1 Dec 1818, at St Luc, with the birth date stated as 13 Oct 1818. The parents’ names were stated as Nicolas Gelino and Louise Demers, who are described as being in a legitimate marriage.
Could this be the same Nicolas Gelineau that married Elisabeth Racicot? And could the parents be the same as those of the other three Gelineau? Well, the 1851 Census record of Rosalie Gelineau’s household has an entry for a person born around 1776, and identified as “veuve Nicolas Gelineau.” Then, in the 1861 Census the entry for the Victoire Gelineau household has an entry for a person, also born in 1776 and likely the same person. Her name is Marie Louise Demers. It thus appears likely that these are the parents of all four Gelineau.
As it happens, there are two additional baptismal records of interest at St Luc (merci a jeanne). There is a baptism on 2 Jun 1816 for a Victoire (no surname cited) who was born illegitimately of unknown parents at St-Valentin on 5 Mar 1815, and one on 3 Feb 1811 for a Rosalie born illegitimately at St-Valentin on 13 Oct 1810. There is also a record for one Benoni who was born illegitimately of unknown parents at St-Valentin on 4 Feb 1816 and baptized at the same time as Victoire. There does not appear to be any further records for this Benoni, so it is possible that this is the same person as Etienne Gelineau.
So the chronology that emerges is one of a relationship between Nicolas Gelineau and Louise Demers which resulted in at least three children out of wedlock before a marriage took place between 1816 and 1818. Unfortunately, a search for a marriage record for these two individuals proved fruitless, so the brick wall is moved back only one generation. However, DNA proved useful here. I personally have DNA matches with two of Etienne Gelineau’s great-great-grandchildren, and with one of Victoire Gelineau’s. The sensitivity of the spit technology underlying retail DNA tests limits its capture to about seven generations, and this in term narrows the size of the search perimeter necessary to identify the common ancestor. As it happens, there is only one Nicolas Gelineau in my extended family tree that satisfies requirements: my third great-granduncle, born 24 Mar 1753 at Longeueil to Nicolas Gelineau and Marie Louise Bourdon, who would be the long-sought-after common ancestors. His second wife, Marie Anne Watson, died in 1810, which fits the rest of the hypothesized chronology reasonably well.
Comments welcome.

Roger,
Thanks for the citation. Unfortunately, the part of the Gelineau tree that interests me branches out after Generation 3, where there is a passing reference to Nicolas Gelineau and Marie Louise Bourdon, from whom these Gelineau descend.
There is a reference here on Generation 5 to a Rosalie Gelineau born August 4 1792 at Chambly. It is stated that this Rosalie married Amable Robert. I don't believe this is correct. The Rosalie Gelineau that was born on that date died Dec 28 1795 according to PRDH.
