In His 100th Year
Predeceased by his parents, four brothers, his beloved wife Vi, and dear companion Lee.
He is survived by his son Norman (Pat); daughter Evelyn (Roger) Van Daele; four grandchildren, Steve, Shelley, Paul and Diane; and eight great-grandchildren.
Dad retired from the Motor Vehicle Branch and moved to Sandy Hook. He always referred to himself as the “Happy Hooker”. He loved the ocean and was never more happy than being out in his boat fishing in the Inlet or enjoying a fresh caught crab.
He was a very proud life-time member of the Legion Branch 140, Sechelt. He served through all the offices in the branch and was called the Honourary President. He started the Saturday afternoon meat draws, organized bus tours, and for many years arranged Legion picnics, Poppy campaigns, and was on the colour party, etc. He also received the Meritorious medal which is the second highest Legion award.
He took on the job of arranging a crew and covered the hospital and Totem Lodge visiting the sick residents on behalf of the Legion. He was also a member of the Naval Association.
He loved to sing and if he wasn’t singing, he was whistling. He knew all the words to the oldies and would sing to anyone who would listen. At Totem Lodge, he would serenade the nurses and looked forward to singing with Reg Dickson when he came in.
We are so thankful for the many friends he had and the fact they never forgot him and visited him continuously at Totem Lodge. The visits, cards and phone calls brightened his day and he was always saying how lucky he was. His home in Sandy Hook was open to all, and you never left without a little “cheer”. He accepted his illness with dignity and never complained. We have to thank Dr. Myhill-Jones and all the caring staff at Totem Lodge for the care and compassion given to him.
Dad always said 1912 was quite the year - the Titanic sank and he was born.
We love you Dad, heaven will never be the same!
